How We Got Here
Hey there - we’re Elliot and Eric Hunker and we wanted to share a bit about our property (and our story) with you.
Elliot came north first, in 2008, and never really left. He was looking for adventure and found it in Talkeetna. In 2013 Elliot moved onto this property and started renting the Mannix Cabin. For years he ran his taxi company out of the Caribou Cabin next door, hauling climbers, tourists, and fisherman to Talkeetna, Denali, and beyond. That outfit is called Talkeetna Trip now. Eric has been visiting Talkeetna since Elliot moved in 2008 and in recent years has split his time between his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma and his second home in Alaska.
Then there's the oldest cabin and namesake of the property - the Studio Cabin. It was built around 1916 down at the original Anchorage townsite. In the 1980’s it was purchased, disassembled, and rebuilt right here to become Talkeetna's first public radio station. KTNA eventually outgrew it and moved across the street, but the name never left us. That's why we call this property The Radio Cabins.
In 2023 we bought the property together and got to work. The cabins were beautiful and very badly worn, so from 2023 to 2026 we restored them one log at a time, doing what we could to keep as much of the original wood and history as we could along the way. In June 2024 we broke ground on the new bathhouse and the Sockeye Suite above it, and finally brought running water to the property. In September 2025 our friend and talented muralist Jeremy Nichols (@plasticbirdie) came up from Portland and painted the incredible salmon mural you can spot as you drive into town.
In Summer 2026 after three years of work, we opened the gate to guests.
We're not out of town investors. We're two brothers who love this town, rebuilt these old cabins with our own hands, and would be honored to host you. Come see the sights, walk to all the best spots on Main Street, and enjoy all the beauty this weird little town has to offer.
